A caregiver is anyone, including children and adults who look after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support.
At PACT INDIA, we recognize that the right caregiver support is essential in transforming the lives of orphaned, abandoned, and surrendered (OAS) children with special needs (CwSN). These children often reside in Child Care Institutions (CCIs), care homes, and NGOs, where caregivers play a crucial role in ensuring their well-being, development, and rehabilitation. However, most CCIs and homes lack skilled professionals trained to address the complex needs of CwSN.
Bridging the Gap: Caregiver Training & Support
To build a sustainable support system for these children, PACT INDIA:
- Trains and upskills caregivers in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, special education, behavioral management, and independent living skills to ensure holistic care.
- Deploys trained caregivers within CCIs and partner organizations to provide consistent, quality rehabilitation support for children with disabilities.
- Promotes an inclusive caregiver-child ratio to ensure personalized attention and structured intervention for every child.
- Empowers women from marginalized backgrounds by training them as professional caregivers, creating livelihood opportunities while addressing the critical shortage of skilled caregivers.
- Ensures structured mentorship and continuous learning, enabling caregivers to enhance their skills and adopt best practices in child rehabilitation.
Why Caregiver Training Matters
Without trained caregivers, many OAS CwSN remain confined to their beds, lacking proper mobility, therapy, and engagement. Through our intervention:
- Children receive personalized care tailored to their needs.
- Caregivers become skilled disability professionals, improving the standard of care in CCIs.
- More CwSN can integrate into inclusive mode of independent living rather than spending their lives in destitute homes.
At PACT INDIA, we believe that empowering caregivers is the first step toward empowering children with special needs. By strengthening the caregiving ecosystem, we ensure that every child, regardless of their challenges, receives the support they need to lead a life of dignity, inclusion, and opportunity
As of not PACT has created 50+ inclusive caregivers in 5 years since inception from 2020
